BEHIND THE WALLS OF PREM DAN (KOLKATA, INDIA)

The Catholic religious congregation of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta was founded in 1950 by Mother Teresa. The Order has several centers around the world and Prem Dan is the largest of Calcutta. Nuns and volunteers welcome men and women with critical health situations. They are often suffering from chronic diseases, malnutrition, injuries, and are dying and have nowhere to go. They receive rudimentary care as a result of lack of resources, and spiritual accompaniment to the afterlife. Every year there are hundreds of volunteers that come to help relieve pain and provide some humanity and a breathe of fresh air to the poor.
